2021 NFL Draft: Mac Jones
MAC JONES, Alabama, 6'3", 214lbs
Jones is a prototypical quarterback who is great at reading the field, processes quickly, and gets the ball out of his hands quickly. He elevates his game and those around him with his confidence (along with some trash-talking). He plays cleanly, has good pocket awareness, and is an accurate passer. These are the traits that boosted the development of both his star receivers, Jaylen Waddle who was having a breakout season until he broke his ankle, and then later with Devonte Smith who went on an absolute tear(117 rec, 1,856 yrds and 23 TDs).
Although unlike Fields or Lance he is not a mobile QB who will elude defenses with his speed or athleticism (4.85 40-yard dash at his pro day). There are some who question his experience after redshirting in his initial year with Alabama, and waiting his turn behind Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa for the next few years. But once he did get his chance (17 total starts) he was phenomenal. In his 2020 season Jones passed for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns while completing 77.4 percent of his passes. When you tack on the fact he lead the Crimson Tide to National Championship, you can understand why he is being talked about as the 3rd overall selection in this years draft.
